I wish all my shots were as hard to take as this one. I'd spent a bit of time reconnoitring the area, looking for the right place for a sunset shot so I could get the path that leads into the frame, the lights, all the buildings, the cliff and the sea in the one shot. Fortunately for me, the exact right place turned out to be the balcony of a restaurant. So there I was, camera all set up on the tripod, all the settings adjusted, the scene framed how I wanted it with everything ready to go, and me, sitting at my balcony table on a warm Mediterranean evening, enjoying a nice meal and a bottle of wine, getting up occasionally to take another shot as the light gradually changed. I suppose I could have plugged in the remote clicker and taken the shot without getting up but it was only three feet away and I pride myself on always going the extra mile. Sometime after dessert I got the shot I wanted, sat back down and put my feet up, sipped my wine and thought deeply about the universe and my place in it. That, and how I'd get back to my hotel and where tomorrow's dawn shot would be.
