The old boat shed on the Swan River. Another iconic landmark shot that every photographer who goes to Perth will have a stab at. I like the way this turned out but it was’t easy. Those boards leading to the shed were slippery, wobbly, and not all there. I wanted a long exposure to get the movement of the clouds so the camera had to be rock steady for 30 seconds but even with the tripod as solid as I could get it, just standing behind the camera caused movement because the walkway is so unstable. The only way around it was to set everything up how I wanted it then use the timer delay on the camera to open the shutter in 20 seconds time (the longest delay) and slowly walk back far enough that I wasn’t affecting the camera. With the slipperiness of the boards, the odd gap here and there and the tripod balanced on the narrow slats, it wasn’t hard to imagine it all ending in tears.
