Wedge tailed eagles are hard to get close to but they're really impressive when you do. They seem to be pretty intelligent and, while they're chewing on a dead 'roo by the side of the road, especially wary of drivers who spot them up ahead, slow down instead of hurtling past then open their windows and stick a camera with a long lens in their general direction. Usually by the time I'm close enough to take the shot they're too far away for me to even bother. But for some reason this one was slow to take flight and for the first time I was so close that even with the 70-200 lens back at 70, I still couldn't fit all of him in the frame. One detail I love in this shot is the blood on his claws from an interrupted lunch.
