North Dakota Sunset
North Dakota Sunset
I'm driving along, wide open spaces as far as the eye can see and I then the colours change and the sun starts to peak through the clouds and I know there's a shot to be had if I can get off this road, hang a left and get up that hill a bit. I put my foot down and hurtle up the dirt road hoping to find a vantage point before the sun sinks behind the fields and, with seconds to spare, I get this shot. As I'm standing there on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, just enjoying the space and the quiet, a pickup truck comes along and he stops and we have a chat. It was an interesting conversation. He was a third generation farmer, probably curious as to what I was doing out there, and I'm a travelling photographer from Melbourne, curious as to what it was like to be a farmer way out there. I hadn't talked to anyone in a while so it was nice.
