Central Park, New York
This is not an easy shot to get because of the time, logistics and money that go into it but spending mornings flying all over New York City in a helicopter can be a lot of fun. I'm often asked if I shot this from a building and I wish I could say yes because it would have been a lot easier and cheaper but it has to be an aerial shot. Not long after I took this one I told the pilot I wanted to shoot straight down over the Empire State Building so there we are over the building doing aerial doughnuts so he could get the helicopter on a steep enough angle and I could hang outside the open doorway and shoot downwards. I was trying to concentrate on what I was doing and keep the nausea down as much as possible but I was also trying to remember if I'd left any camera gear loose in the cockpit because at that angle I was worried it would fall out and kill some poor tourist below. Fortunately, no gear or vomit left the cockpit on that flight for which I am grateful.
